Students went over the reading of The Lottery from yesterday. They need to answer two questions on this story by class start tomorrow.
1) What point of view is The Lottery told in? What evidence is provided?
2) Choose a focus question and answer it supporting answer with evidence.
Students also took notes on a skills lesson from StudySync on Point of View or POV. Students will be assessed on this skill next Thursday.
Students were assigned to read and take notes on Chapter 3 of The Giver. The notes should follow the previous format but with at least ten being provided for the chapter. Two of them must be connections. (Text-Text, Text-World, Text-Self). These are due next Monday.
Students were assigned to read and take notes on chapter 2 of The Giver. The notes are to have a paper folded, giving two sides to work on. Reading and notes are due on Thursday
Students read The Lottery from their text book and took first reading notes.
Today students had their second Monday to complete their StudySync assignment. These are due by 11:59pm today.
Students also got their copy of Lois Lowery's The Giver. This is the novel we will start reading as a class.
Students are to read chapter 1 and take notes in their notebook (NOT THE BOOK ITSELF). Students may use this book for their HRL this week as well.

Students on Monday were assigned to read, highlight, annotate, answer comprehension and Think questions. This large reading assignment is due next Monday.
Students today had a chance to do some independent reading and were given their assignment for home reading in the form of a Home Reading Log. This HRL is going to be given out every Monday and is expected to be completed, signed by a parent, and turned in the following Monday. In this case the first completed HRL will be due in the Turn-In Box on Monday 11/20. Extra copies of the HRL are available to download and print from here.
