students took notes, compared notes, and explained expectations. In this fashion we are setting the table for what our collaboration will look like when doing study Sync.
We then started working on Word Toots. More on this tomorrow. Links will be active for wordroots
Students worked to finish their NWEA MAP scores. Once done students were given the next portion of Close and Critical practice. Today, much like in the previous days, we addressed more Close and Critical practice. We read and summarized in a five sentence summary of the song "Where you Are" from Moana.
Students continued going through the syllabus and classroom expectations before being given their first reading and writing assessment in the form of a Close and Critical. In this assignment, students are to find a song of their choice to analyze and annotate the lyrics. Once they have done this they will answer four questions about the writing and their comprehension of the writing. The questions ask them to summarize, detail writer's craft and style, develop theme with evidence, and make connections. This assignment is due Monday at the start of class.
After the whirlwind that was the first day back to school, students got to know more about the people around them and the class expectations and my philosophy of teaching. I distributed the class syllabus and went over much of the classroom expectations. I have included a copy of that syllabus below.
