After our end of the quarter spelling test yesterday, today we relaxed with some silent sustained reading. I collected Lexile ranges for use in next weeks novel group off. We also set expectations for tomorrow: a guest teacher, Close and Critical Reading, SSR, best behavior.
Today students dirty doing the literacy club Mondays. They found articles or found a book that was of their Lex I'll score higher to read, and enter into their reading log the reading strategies that they used.
Today students worked with their initial writing groups on creating the perfect write up of Dressing for Success. Students wrote their own paper, read their paper to the group, listened to the other group members read their paper, edited and made revision suggestions to the group, and then created a cumulatively created write up explaining dressing for success. These will be turned in on Tueaday.
The students are putting in great effort to edit the fractured fairytales and have them ready for the original writers to revise for a final draft. As we close in on this, I look to next week as a timeframe to work on the final draft. Good work class keep it up.
Today students wrote down their goals for the first month of lit club. Either that, or students were working with our class iPads on editing our fractured fables. We will resume this on Tuesday.
Today students got the materials they will use for Literacy Club on Mondays in class. They got Reading Strategy Cards and a Reading Log. They even received an exemplar of a reading log completed the right way. We will use these on Monday and they need to keep it safe until then.
We then shifted to editing the fairytales groups thought they had completed last week. We need to polish up some of the stories before we officially publish them. This will run the next few days.
Today I was reminded that not all students have learned what is acceptable behavior for 7th graders. I reminded students that when you move up in grade, so too should the expectation for behavior. I hope to see an improved class both in the classroom and in the hallways tomorrow.
I thank those students that played along and will reward them with the normal class tomorrow thank you
Students edited their peer Close and Critical, and now they apply that to self reflection and grading.
