I personally love reading Poe. I think his stories attack the sense of norm very well. Today our Guest Teacher read through another of Poe's stories. Exit tickets were collected on how would you summarize the story in a text message without giving away any endings?

Today students got to read The Raven by Edgar Alan Poe. They located their vocabulary words they selected the day before and highlighted them. They then broke into small groups and read the poem with each other.
Exit ticket for class is for the students to create their own twitter tweet 140 character explaining the poem. Only one #hashtag may be used.
Students started today by using the computers to complete a scavenger hunt on Edgar Allan Poe. This is homework if not completed in class.
Following this students were directed to go to mrakansonline.com and select 20 of the vocabulary words listed to go along with Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven. Vocabulary work includes getting a definition and either creating a sentence or picture that goes with each vocabulary word they selected. This will be due on Monday.
Vocabulary Words - Choose which ever 20 of these you would like to work with for this assignment.
Today students were busy in our new Monday setting (The Media Center). We took a spelling test from the words we studied for last week. We will take part 2 of the spelling test using words from "The Monkey's Paw" tomorrow.
We then went over the NWEA - MAP test results. It offered everything from comparing how they did on this first test to those students within the district, and nationally. It also gave them their Lexile score. This will be used for selecting texts to read in class on Mondays.
This marked the first day in which we will be doing Literacy Club in the Library. The class will set up all electronic tools next week.
After a reflection with the class on the Hitchhiker projects that they created, we moved on to reading the excerpt from C.C. Jacobs "The Monkey's Paw". We will dissect the story tomorrow, but students are to complete the vocabulary and definitions for homework tonight.
