Today students read in their small groups chapter 3 and chapter 4 and prepared to cite and answer their questions on Edmodo.
Today we had a lot of things going on during our shortened schedule day.
Students reread chapter 1 and 2 and took notes to help answer questions on Edmodo by Midnight tonight.
Captains were responsible for reading ahead chapter 3 and 4 and creating their focus questions for those chapters. They then had to post those to their Captains group by this evening in preparation and discussion on the next chapters with the captains.
Finally, we went over some new Word Roots that students will get tested on next Tuesday along with the previous word roots covered.
Today students broke into their small groups to read chapters one and two and discuss. While this was a rough trial today, it will become more streamlined and much more dynamic as we continue this through the next few days and weeks. Book group captains posted their questions to Edmodo where the other students in the group must answer the focus question no later than Wednesday 11:59 p.m. I look forward to seeing the answers people have. Students will get some time in class to work on these posts and reply as well tomorrow.
We are hoping to put on a Thanksgiving feast in Room 118 the Tuesday before Thanksgiving
If you are willing to help make this happen? If so, let me know what you would be willing to bring in.

Today students did their Literacy Club readings and took notes using their Reading Strategies Cards. I also had the small Group Captains meet up with me to set up what the protocol will be for their reading groups and focus questions. Captains were put in their own Edmodo Group and will post their focus questions for peer review and discussions on Mondays and Wednesdays. They will post their selected questions to their own reading groups on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It really won't be as confusion as it may seems once we start doing it tomorrow.
Don't let it confuse you, today was just like any other Monday for us and we did lip club Mondays. Students read Lexile level or higher reading material and entered into the reading log the different strategies a used.
Today students took their Q2.1 spelling test. They also got to preview and even purchase books available at the book fair. This is a great chance to load up on reading materials for Lit Club.
Today students did some silent sustained reading, worked on their vocabulary tic tac toe assignment that is due Monday. We then assigned the groups they will work in for our first novel. Today I activated their small groups within Edmodo and hand out their packets for notes for the novel. I also had some students work on figurative language assessment dealing with allusions on Edmodo.
