Room 118
The LoungeThe famed Room 118 Sofa (MIA) is not only comfortable, but it also anchors one of the best sections of the classroom, our Lounge. Complete with the sofa, cushioned chairs, and even a coffee table, students can find a spot where they can get in the zone and simply read. It is that easy. Already read a lot of books and don't know what to do with the old ones? The class always accepts donations to improve our in-class library.

The High TableThis is the perfect spot for anyone that just hates sitting for an entire class hour. Here the high table allows students to either sit on one of the stools, or stand and still have the work surface stay the same. Its a great large collaborative space, and home to the best view of the football field.

WoodyGiven to my son a few years ago, it has since been gifted to me from my son. Woody represents creativity and loyalty...or just a really well merchandised character by Pixar. He's been joined by some new friends too.

My Teaching Philosophy
Above all else, I strongly believe that a great teacher inspires, and that all students deserve a teacher that unflinchingly wants the best for their students. Specific class goals and individual goals will be presented on the first day of class. Among the expectations will be that of hard work, from students and myself, a positive attitude and respect shown to classmates and to their opinions and ideas. Day one sets a framework and standards for the rest of the year. In the past they may have had bad grades or may have gotten in trouble, but I will offer a clean slate, and that clean slate will be used to learn and experience lessons that will prepare them for the “real world” that awaits them. I will use broad lessons, specific case studies, and group activities, poignant or humorous articles, tying in to current events to create a class awareness of the world and how it works. I will use every method, technology, and tool, including think-aloud and peer review to open discussion and better comprehend material. Class will start very structured, offering more freedom in lessons as the students show their ability to comprehend, follow directions, and transition quickly and quietly from one subject or lesson as needed.. By setting high standards, and pushing every student to the limits of their ability, helping when necessary, students will reach their fullest potential. Within the classroom, students will be encouraged, praised, rewarded, and assisted in expanding his/her knowledge. Students need to push themselves to the limits of what they can accomplish, fearing not about making mistakes, but failure to learn from them. Regardless of what subject is taught, communication is paramount, and in my class students will build and practice verbal and written skills to better convey their ideas. I plan to make my classroom, challenging, fun, and rewarding. All this is part of my framework for preparing each student for competing in and engaging a new and competitive world. Having grown up a military-brat, and having seen many teaching styles, I believe that showing that I care about, and have a vested interest in the students’ formal education and their success will inspire students.
